Memento Mori (remember that you must die) is a Latin phrase, originating from the custom in ancient Rome when a general returned to the city after a war, triumphantly parading in the streets & collecting the honors that were given him by the crowd, he ran the risk of being overwhelmed by pride and delusions of grandeur. To prevent this from happening, behind his back, he pronounced the phrase: "Respice post te. Hominem te memento" ("Look behind you. Remember that you are a man").
