Very impressive, stylised and decorative militaria image, in attractive period frame.

Published by Rudolf Ackermann 1847, in a glazed period frame.

The 16th The Queen's Lancers was a cavalry regiment of the British Army, first raised in 1759. It saw service for two centuries. It was re-designated as a lancer regiment in September 1816, becoming the 16th (The Queen's) Regiment of (Light) Dragoons (Lancers).

The Battle of Aliwal was fought between the British and Sikh forces in northern India (now Punjab). Britain's victory in the battle is sometimes regarded as the turning point in the First Anglo-Sikh War. With many commentators referring to Sir Harry Smith's victory as the "Battle without a mistake". Except for the 16th Lancers, who lost 144 men out of about 300, when the regiment charged and dispersed a body of Sikhs ten times its size.
